The neuromuscular-skeletal system is designed for co-ordination, and is dependent upon the correct functioning
of the spine more than anything else for high performance. If the joints are out of position in the spine or elsewhere, this can cause nerve irritation, and nervous signals from the brain to the limb become impaired, resulting in diminished reflexes and aberrant muscle function and weakness. Disuse of muscles can lead to general derangement of the joint. A joint is made up of two bones, and ligaments to hold them together usually forming a capsule which contains fluid to neutralise friction. The spine has a shock absorbing mechanism called a disc that separates the two bones. Surrounding the ligaments are muscles that can contract to regulate the angle of the joint

Our rehabilitative approach is to identify the tension related to the pain generator, reduce the tension and teach the patient how to keep the tension from returning.

Further, to maximise performance and healing after injury, the muscles that support the joints, may need both passive and active facilitation, and your treatment at our clinic will includes these methods. This will shortcut the time needed before rehabilitation exercises can be performed.

A well designed and progressive sequence of exercises will stimulate what is known as neural adaption, which creates new multifaceted skills for the performer, whether a simple task such as getting in and out of a chair is involved, or more athletic tasks are involved.

QUESTION: What is your LC chiropractor thinking when reviewing your case?

ANSWER: What short term and long term strategies shall I include for optimum recovery with this person, and what are their own outcomes?

Short term strategies may include briefly counselling you on how to reduce the risks of perpetuating the problem or making it worse, to offer practical advice on corrective posture, joint hydration, reducing inflammation and pain, how to move with more unity in the body, while coaching appropriate corrective exercises along side passive and active chiropractic care.

Long term strategies may include linking your passive care (the treatment) by building stability of your joints and throughout your whole body, building endurance, true strength, and adaptation into ultra performance, speed, power and agility exercises.
